This year’s dinner will feature the recipes of guest chef and speaker Lois Ellen Frank, a Santa Fe based chef, author, Native foods historian and photographer. Ellen has spent over 18 years documenting foods and lifeways of Native American tribes from the Southwest. Frank is a featured cooking instructor at the Santa Fe School of Cooking and operates Red Mesa, a Native American Catering and Food Company. Currently working on her Ph.D. dissertation on Native American Cuisine, her research and documentation in written, photographic, and food form includes the agricultural, culinary, mythological, and socioeconomic uses of foods & plants amongst various indigenous peoples all over the Americas. Following dinner, Ellen will present a talk on indigenous foods in contemporary times. Her book, Foods of the Southwest Indian Nations, will be available for purchase at the Black Cat.
